It's a common fact that life is always changing. But sometimes we find ourselves grossly, or even more subtly, opposed to it.
As much as I like to consider myself a free spirit, ready to go play at a moment's notice, there is a side of me that finds much comfort in routine. In fact, with the changes I've undertaken this spring, my energy has thrived from setting a regular schedule to write, be at the office, practice and teach yoga, and still have the flexibility to go play golf, take a hike with my dog, or rest at home with my honey.
That being said, I noticed this morning some discomfort arising out of small changes to my week. I found myself irritable having to move things around, and feeling responsible to still fit everything in that was necessary (and desired).
I then thought of a time in my life where huge transformation took place--the remodel of my Florida home. It was a grueling 3 weeks initially--working all day, stopping briefly for food, and then finishing the day with a sea bath to soothe our sore muscles. Since then, it's been an ongoing labor of love to take something from ordinary to excellent. (there are a more pictures below that highlight just some of these modifications).
That being said--changes both big and small can cause discomfort. The trick is to be centered, appreciative, and true to yourself along the way. So, today, I choose to welcome the changes in my life. I choose to stand tall in the face of uncertainty and smile at my courage to face it. And, I choose to focus on the areas of my life that bring me joy throughout it all.
For change really is inevitable, and it can be a wonderful catalyst to connect with the absolute best versions of ourselves in this moment... right now! So enjoy, and have fun in the midst of the changes in your life today.
