One of my favorite quotes is, "Balance is a moving target."
With so many changes in my life, it seems as though that target is on the end of a yoyo string!
It's 5 am, and I've been up -- on and off -- for much of the night. It's incredibly windy here, and so many sounds have been keeping me awake. Tree limbs cracking and hitting one another. Heavy equipment banging around in the back yard. Empty cans jingling their way down the street with each gust.
The bright side is that I get to start my day early.
When I'm awake, I'm awake.
Steve did want me to stay in the warmth of the bed, despite his annoyance at my antsy nature when stirred.
However, my mind is up ready to begin putting together thoughts and intentions for the waking hours ahead.
Although the daily activities for this week are the same, I'm excited to chart the course for my attention.
You see, this week is about energy management.
And since our levels of energy change throughout each day, over the course of the week, and even over the course of seasons, it's fun to get to watch how these different energy levels affect our choices, actions, and patterns.
Instead of looking at every small detail of my life, I find it much easier to track my energy through the three basic spheres of life—the Business, the Personal, and the Spiritual Spheres.
These areas are like cogs working together. When personal energy levels are high in each area, your life runs smoothly. When energy is being wasted, one cog in your wheel of life gets jammed and creates stress, chaos, and imbalance in the rest.
The overall goal is this: to maintain a high-energy account that balances your business, personal, and spiritual aspects of life..
Here are some examples of what constitute each sphere.
- Career, job, schooling
- Returning phone calls/emails
- Organizing your planner
- House/car maintenance
- Mooney management
- Family relationships
- Recreational activities
- Creative endeavors
- Meaningful rituals
- Relationship with a mentor
- Guiding principles
Now, the fun part is checking how much time gets spent in each sphere throughout the day.

I know that I tend to spend some time in my spiritual and personal spheres before work... and then spend a big chunk of time in the business world. My afternoons and evenings are mostly personal, and some business catching up around the house. Then, I try to spend some more time in the spiritual before bed ... getting my heart and mind into a place where I can truly rest.
What does your energy look like today?
