This week has been focused on discovering what areas of my life -- business, personal, and spiritual -- feel in balance, and which ones don't. If you're just now joining us, you can download the form here to help you look at this over the course of a week.
What I noticed most about myself is that while many of the things I do during the course of the week appear to have a sense of balance on paper, my inner being seems out of whack.
Then, this morning, the obvious flashed right before my eyes.
Balance is about alignment.
Alignment is the internal steadiness to stand confidently in your beliefs and values amidst any surrounding circumstance. It's the ability to know you are connected to a much greater power within you at all times, regardless of what others say or do. And, alignment is not only a state to be reached, but a skill to be practiced.
I know that I cannot control the thoughts or actions of others, just as I cannot control the weather or the outcome of this 2016 presidential election.
I do know that I can control how I respond to the things around me... and my response is directly related to my inner state of alignment.
I've noticed that over the past year, I have been faced with many situations that I would consider uncomfortable. Instead of viewing them as learning (which I do know is an option), I have often tried to ignore the pain or uneasiness within me.
Today, I am confidently choosing to find balance, find alignment, in the small things around me. I choose to care how I feel, and make choices that support my joy, freedom, and integrity.
I know that as I choose to savor the sense of balance in the small things, I will be able to find inner steadiness when the larger decisions need to be made.
This year, I have been fearful about the "what ifs" of the future, and lost my balance in the meantime.
I have been so worried about the big decisions that I lost my alignment in the small ones.
Today, I regain that power. Today, I choose to know who I am, the values I hold, and the places I am going to go with my life (even if that means just the very next step in my day).
I am going to pay attention to the small moments of today, so I can practice my level of focus on the good that comes within each of them. I know that I can build momentum for the good in my life, and it starts with my alignment in the day-to-day choices I am making.
Today, I recognize that I can do the very best I can, knowing that the acceptance or approval of others does not affect my worthiness. I choose to express my divinity by loving myself, appreciating others, recognizing contrast in my life as a learning experience, and honoring my individuality.
Today, I choose to be happy on this part of my path, knowing that the destination will be there for me when I arrive. I will focus on the things that are working out for me, and trust that the others that currently not in place will find their way into balance in the right time.
I know that I do have the power to make choices in any given moment, and today I choose alignment.
How about you?
